Aptis Reading Part 3
Topic: Music Festival
Four people respond in the comments section of an online magazine article about attending a recent music festival. Read their comments and answer the questions below (16–22).
Person A
I’ve been going to this festival for five years now, and while the line-up of bands is always fantastic, the event has become a victim of its own success. There were simply too many people squeezed into the venue this year. Waiting for forty minutes just to buy a bottle of water or use the restroom is unacceptable. Honestly, I ended up watching some of my favorite artists on the giant screens at the back because getting near the stage was impossible. Unless they limit ticket sales next year, I might just watch the live stream from the comfort of my living room.
Person B
It was my first time attending a multi-day festival, and I was blown away by the atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly! Prior to going, my friends warned me that festival food and drinks are a total rip-off, so I packed plenty of snacks in my backpack. Even so, when I added up the cost of the entry pass, the camping gear, and the train fare, it took a huge chunk out of my monthly savings. I don’t regret going because the headline acts were unforgettable, but it’s definitely a luxury I can only afford once every few years.
Person C
As someone who lives in the town where the festival is held, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, it brings a lot of money to local shops and cafes. On one hand, the mess left behind in the park is disgraceful. When I walked my dog there on Monday morning, the grass was completely ruined and covered in plastic cups and abandoned tents. Furthermore, the sound system was so loud that my windows were vibrating until midnight. The musical talent was undeniable, though—I actually discovered a brilliant new jazz band just by listening from my garden!
Person D
I went mainly to support my brother’s indie band, who were playing on one of the smaller stages on Sunday afternoon. The music across all the tents was diverse and energetic, which I loved. However, the transport arrangements were a complete disaster. When the final concert finished on Sunday night, thousands of us were left waiting in the freezing cold for shuttle buses that never showed up. We eventually had to share an overpriced taxi with strangers just to get back to our hotel. The organizers really need to coordinate better with the local transport authority.
Read the comments and match each question (16–22) to the correct person (A, B, C, or D).
- Who thinks the festival was too crowded?
- Who complains about the litter and noise caused by the event?
- Who had trouble getting home after the festival ended?
- Who thinks attending the festival is too expensive?
- Who enjoyed the music without actually entering the festival site?
- Who was dissatisfied with the long queues for basic facilities?
- Who prepared their own food to avoid high prices inside the venue?
Aptis Reading Part 4

- B. Origins of the traditional working schedule
- C. Impressive results from recent global experiments
- D. Why some industries struggle to adapt
- E. A shift in how we measure success at work
- F. Improvements in employee health and retention
- G. The risk of lower wages for workers
- H. How technology enables shorter working hours
The Arrival of the Four-Day Work Week
23.
For nearly a century, the standard five-day, forty-hour work week has been the cornerstone of modern employment. This structure was largely popularized in the 1920s by industrialist Henry Ford, who discovered that giving factory workers two days off instead of one actually boosted their assembly-line output and gave them more leisure time to buy consumer goods. While this model served the industrial era well, a growing number of economists and business leaders now argue that it is an outdated relic that fails to reflect the realities of the twenty-first-century economy.
24.
At the heart of the movement toward a four-day work week is a fundamental redefinition of workplace efficiency. Instead of judging staff by the number of hours they spend sitting at a desk—a habit known as “presenteeism”—progressive companies are focusing purely on actual output and results. Most advocates promote the “100-80-100” model, wherein employees receive 100 percent of their usual pay for working 80 percent of the hours, in exchange for a commitment to maintaining 100 percent of their productivity.
25.
What once sounded like a utopian dream has recently been backed by compelling empirical evidence. Over the past few years, large-scale trials involving hundreds of companies across the United Kingdom, Iceland, New Zealand, and Japan have tested the shorter week. Contrary to the fears of skeptics, corporate revenue did not collapse; in fact, it rose slightly on average when compared to previous years. Over ninety percent of the participating firms found the transition so seamless and beneficial that they decided to make the four-day schedule permanent after the trial period ended.
26.
Beyond maintaining financial performance, the human impact of an extra day off has been profound. Surveys conducted during these trials revealed a dramatic drop in workplace burnout, stress, and anxiety among staff. With a three-day weekend to rest, pursue hobbies, and handle family responsibilities, workers returned on Mondays feeling refreshed and highly motivated. Consequently, companies reported a sharp decline in the number of sick days taken, alongside a significant reduction in staff resignations, saving businesses thousands of dollars in recruitment costs.
27.
Achieving the same amount of work in fewer hours does not happen by magic; it requires smart organizational changes and modern tools. Participating companies typically began by eliminating unnecessary meetings, shortening the remaining ones, and setting designated “focus hours” free from email or chat interruptions. Furthermore, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and automation software has allowed routine administrative tasks—such as data entry, scheduling, and report generation—to be completed in seconds, freeing human workers to concentrate on high-value creative tasks.
28.
An often-overlooked advantage of reducing the work week is its positive impact on the planet. When offices close for an extra day, daily commuter traffic drops noticeably, leading to lower carbon emissions and cleaner air in urban centers. Additionally, large commercial buildings consume vast amounts of electricity for heating, air conditioning, and lighting. Powering down these facilities for three days a week instead of two significantly shrinks a company’s carbon footprint, helping nations move closer to their climate targets.
29.
Despite the overwhelming enthusiasm, the four-day week is not a universal solution that can be applied effortlessly across all sectors. While software firms, marketing agencies, and administrative offices can easily compress their workflows, customer-facing and essential services face major logistical hurdles. Hospitals, schools, retail stores, and public transport networks must operate continuously. For these organizations, cutting hours without reducing service quality would require hiring substantial numbers of additional staff, a financial burden that many tight-budgeted institutions simply cannot afford.

Ví dụ, ở dạng Opinion Matching, câu hỏi có thể sử dụng cụm too expensive, trong khi người viết diễn đạt bằng a huge chunk out of my monthly savings. Nếu chỉ tìm từ giống hệt nhau, bạn có thể bỏ qua mối liên hệ giữa hai cách diễn đạt.
Đối với dạng sắp xếp câu, hãy chú ý những dấu hiệu như however, finally, after gathering all the information hoặc các đại từ như them, it, this.
